Jim was born January 3, 1948 in Lakeland Florida and went to be with Jesus on June 30,2019. He leaves behind his daughter Brandi and her husband John (Jay) Bakker, his granddaughter Sydney Sanders, his sister Martha VonPusch, and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents Ira Hornsby and Edna Asbury, his brother Bobby Hornsby, and sister Sara Hornsby Cude. Jim graduated from Flagstaff High School in 1966. He earned the Purple Heart and Bronze Star while serving with the United States Navy, doing one tour in Vietnam. He married Belinda Menendez on January 14, 1977. Jim was the 1991 Salutatorian at Florida Bible College, Kissimmee Florida. While in Romania (1994-1997) Jim worked planting churches while doing missionary work. His heart to help the less fortunate lead Jim to Churches Touching Lives for Christ (CTLC), a nonprofit center that offers counseling, clothing and is a food bank, where he was later voted in as the director in 2011. Jim joined Feed My Sheep in 2012 and was voted into office as the president in April 2013. Jim took the reins by the horn and started reaching out to get help from community leaders. He soon had more food to care for the needs of CTLC, and also to help with the cooking at Feed My Sheep. Leading a team of volunteers, Jim turned Avenue G into “Avenue of Hope”, as he would say. People and churches came along and went to work, wherever Jim needed them. Not only did he work hard at CTLC and Feed My Sheep he also took the time to talk to the people. He had a servant’s heart and a heart full of love for people. Jim wanted them to know the love of Jesus. He will be missed by so many. Jim’s legacy will live a long time in Temple Texas.
