David Timothy Hester Sr., age 86, of Temple passed from this life during the evening hours of Saturday, July 6, 2019 at a Temple hospital. Born on the 11th day of July 1932 in Glasgow, IL David was the son of Archie and May (Young) Hester.

David was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force having served during the Korean War Era. After his service in the Air Force he caught the eye of his future bride Betty Jean Chapman. The two would make their union binding in Jacksonville, IL on March 31, 1961. David and Betty spent the next 52 years building a life together until Betty’s passing in 2013.
One of David’s passions in life was reading books. He loved to spend time at home reading and learning about new things. He loved to listen to Bill Gaither sing his gospel songs and he could sit and talk for hours as long as the fresh coffee never ran out. David loved his family and enjoyed spend time with them. If not at home you could find him searching through one of the many garage sales on a Saturday morning or headed to the gym to get in a bit of exercise. David spent 55 years as a Master Electrician. He worked for Mobile Chemical Company, Arthur Collier Electric, Temple ISD, and most recently Wal-Mart as an electrician. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Temple and has been a resident of Temple since 1970.
He is preceded in death by his wife Betty and his parents Archie and May as well as 1 sister Ellen Hester.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his 6 children, David “Tim” Hester and wife Warda of Monticello, MN., James Michael Hester of Reading, PA., Roger Dale Hester of Temple, Archie Hester of Temple, Debbie Lee Coman and husband Duane of Pendleton and Brenda Lee Johnson and husband David of Temple. He also leaves his 2 brothers Dean Hester of Glasgow IL. and Corky Hester of Mount Juliet, TN. as well as his 3 sisters Roberta Ryder of Rural Winchester, IL., Dorothy Kylo of Dutton, AL., and Charlene Boyd of Granite City, IL. Also surviving are his 15 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for David Hester will take place on Saturday, July 13, 2019 at 10 o'clock a.m. at Hewett-Arney Funeral Home chapel with a burial to follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Temple. The family will be accepting visitors at the funeral home on Friday night between the hours of 7 and 8 o'clock p.m.
