Antonio “Tony” Jaramillo Mendoza, age 81, of Temple passed from this life during the early morning hours of Monday, September 9, 2019 at Scott and White Hospital in Temple. Born in Cameron, Texas on the 23rd day of June 1938 he was the son of Joe and Dolores (Jaramillo) Mendoza.

In his early years Tony attended and graduated from Buckholts High School. Tony was a devoted family man. He was compassionate towards others needs and took care of those he loved. He was a pitcher in the Old Timers Baseball League and he played pool with Temple chapter of the APA. Tony worked for Selective Signs from 1968 to 2017 under Ben Chandler and then under Jack Chandler. He made a long career of sign making and painting. He also worked for Wilbert Beckhusen for many years. When not working you could find Tony watching his all-time favorite football team, the Dallas Cowboys, with his faithful puppy companions Dallas and Bailey. Tony married Betty Herzog and together they have spent the last 28 years walking side by side in life enjoying each other’s company. Tony has lived in Temple since 1968 and he was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents Joe and Dolores, son Antonio Mendoza Jr., brothers Joe, Paul, Floyd and Steven Mendoza and 1 sister Rosie Gonzalez.
Tony leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife Betty Mendoza, 6 sons Edward Mendoza, Tony Mendoza Jr., Albert Garcia, Michael Garcia, Robby Piatkowski and Justin Guthrie, 5 daughters Sophie Ewing, Ester Fino, Yolanda Flores, Sylvia Torres and Darlene Moore. He also leaves behind his brother Jesse Mendoza, his 2 sisters Margaret Luna and Jovita Martinez as well as 32 grandchildren and 46 great-grandchildren.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 10 o’clock a.m. on Thursday, September 12, 2019 at Hillcrest Cemetery in Temple. The family will be accepting visitors at the funeral home on Wednesday night between the hours of 6 and 8 o’clock p.m.
